A leading private investigator explains how many cheating spouses are getting caught as a result of text messages exchanged with their lovers.
According to Christopher Paoletti, Founder and President of Infidelity Investigations (http://www.infidelitypolice.com), a Connecticut private investigation firm that specializes in infidelity cases, a new term, “chexting,” has been coined to describe cheating on one's spouse via text message.
“Although the term may be new, the act is not,” says Paoletti. “Celebrities like Tiger Woods and Jesse James have learned the hard way that text message evidence of extramarital affairs can lead to tremendous problems.”
Paoletti says that an increasing number of adulterous relationships are being discovered through modern technology. In some cases cheaters are caught through their cell phones, he explains, while others are caught using email, Internet chat rooms or instant messaging programs.
“When it comes to a private investigation into an alleged cheating spouse, compromising text messages and emails can provide proof that a spouse has been unfaithful,” says Paoletti. “This proof is often a slam dunk in divorce proceedings.”
In most cases, Paoletti says, cheaters slip-up and spouses find evidence of an extra-marital affair through voicemails, text messages and emails that the cheater forgot to erase. However, Paoletti says that even deleted messages can be recovered and used as evidence.
“While many cheaters believe that simply deleting text messages and emails can cover their tracks, the truth is that there are ways to retrieve deleted data. No matter how careful a cheating spouse may be, there is a good chance that a private investigator can recover evidence of his or her affair.”
